ABSTRACT SELF PORTRAIT 2024
This piece was for an assignment in my oil painting class. The assignment was titled: “Self Portrait: More Than Meets the Eye”. I was tasked with creating a self portrait that used my facial features as a looking glass into my inner world. This project was an exploration of color, shape, and texture in order to show parts of us that may not be visible upon first glance.
I began this task by taking a reference photo of my face and creating a list of words that I wanted my portrait to encapsulate. My words were mysterious, superimposed, concealed, tangled, intertwined, and veil.
These paintings were done on an 18 x 24 inch canvas that I built and stretched myself using a sheet of canvas and stretcher bars.
