Family Heirloom 2025

Family Heirloom, Multi-Color Reduction Relief Print, 9" x 12"

This print required a lot of planning and a large learning curve. Each layer had to be carefully planned out because once parts are carved away you cannot put them back. I also had to be conscious of printing from lightest to darkest colors. Unfortunately, I didn’t add any white ink to my green layer, leaving the that layer black instead of green. I also forgot to carve out one of the tomatoes, and did not realize until I had completed all of my prints. This print took six layers.

This print was inspired by the heirloom tomatoes we have started growing at my house from seeds. This summer will be our third. Growing up, my grandpa always had tomato plants, so I felt a generational tie with growing tomatoes. This is why I named it “Family Heirloom”.
